Who we are

Our Story

Agency Background
Unified Vailsburg Services Organization was founded in 1972 by a neighborhood coalition of clergy, civic leaders and concerned Vailsburg residents to manage change and address service shortages in the community. To achieve this mission, we provide a comprehensive program of services for children, teens, families, and senior citizens as well as encourage neighborhood improvement through community outreach and housing development.

In 2013, UVSO provides daily services to an average of 1,000 local people of all ages. In addition to its service programs, the agency has developed 180 units of housing and 55,000 square feet of commercial space, owns and manages 17 buildings in the community, and works with an active network of block associations that extends throughout Vailsburg.

Board & Leadership

Unified Vailsburg Services Organization is governed by a Board of Directors made up exclusively of Vailsburg stakeholders who live, work, or otherwise invest in the community. There is a strong interplay and partnership between the board and the local block association network. The majority of the current members of the board are also leaders of Vailsburg block clubs. This relationship ensures accurate and useful community input during the development of plans for programs and improvement projects in the neighborhood.
